Yolanda Stephney, 50, of Carthage, Texas, passed away on Tuesday morning, April 14, 2020, at her home in Carthage. Yolanda Mechal Tatum was born on August 25, 1969, in Beckville, Panola County, Texas to Gus Tatum, Jr. and Jessie Ruth Lister Tatum. She graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1988. She married Michael Keith Stephney and he preceded her in death. Yolanda loved gardening and enjoyed dancing. She had lived her lifetime in Panola County and was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church near Beckville. Yolanda was preceded in death by her father; her husband; and a sister, Ruby Jean Jackson.

Left to cherish her memory are her mother, Jessie Tatum and husband Jessie Allison of Carthage; children, Desiree, Victoria, and Keosha Stephney all of Carthage; siblings, Roy Tatum (Karen) of Carthage, and Gary Tatum, Doris Hooker, and Aretha Lockett all of Beckville; and grandchild, Keela Stephney. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends also survive.

A family graveside service will be held at Tabernacle-Shiloh Cemetery near Beckville with Rev. A.L. Sims and Bishop Hubert Owens officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. A come and go viewing will be held from 1-5 p.m. on Friday, April 17, 2020, at the funeral home.
