Graveside services for Mrs. Winnie Mae Gentry, age 90, of Carthage, TX, will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011, at Waldrop Cemetery in the Brooks Community of Panola County, TX with Dr. Dale Reed officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Gentry passed away on Sunday morning, Nov. 6, 2011, in Carthage.
Mrs. Winnie Mae Waldrop Gentry was born on July 12, 1921, in the Brooks Community of Panola County, TX to Ray Waldrop, Sr. and Tennie Williams Waldrop. Growing up, Mrs. Gentry attended the Brooks School. She married Robert C. Gentry in 1940, and he preceded her in death on July 19, 1966. Mrs. Gentry worked out of her home where she ran a day nursery for many years. She loved to crochet, was a wonderful cook, and enjoyed reading. Mrs. Gentry lived her lifetime in Panola County and was a member of the Carthage Missionary Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Margie Faye Wyatt and Mozzie Tompkins.
Mrs. Gentry is survived by her son Robert R. Gentry and wife Betty of Fairfield; one daughter, Kathy Pate and husband Johnnie of Carthage; one brother, Ray Waldrop, Jr. of Carthage; brother-in-law, W.C. McMillan of Carthage; sister-in-law, Frances Gentry of Orange Park, FL; four grandchildren, Michael Watson, Chad Watson and wife Jill, Natalie Martin and husband Casey, and Sutton Gentry; five great-grandchildren, Reed, Grant, Kate, Jake, and Lucas Watson; and a special friend, Laura Fields of Carthage. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends also survive Mrs. Gentry.
Serving as pallbearers are Michael Watson, Chad Watson, Sutton Gentry, Casey Martin, Reed Watson, and Ward McMillan.
