Willis Wills, 98, of Carthage, TX, passed away on Tuesday morning, May 23, 2023, in Carthage. He was born on Oct. 2, 1924, in Fair Play, Panola County, TX to the late Sam Houston and Myrtie Mae Birdwell Wills. Mr. Wills served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. He married Charlcie Modine Armstrong on Nov. 1, 1947, in Carthage and she preceded him in death on May 27, 2014, after 67 years together. Mr. Wills lived his lifetime in Panola County and was of the Pentecostal faith. He worked as an operator for United Gas Pipeline Co. until his retirement and also as a rancher for his entire life. He loved hunting and fishing. Mr. Wills was also preceded in death by his siblings, Wilbert Wills and Peggy Phillips.
He is survived by his children Sue Ross and husband Mike, Lee Wills and wife Laura, and Brenda Holland and husband Donnie; siblings, Jack Wills and wife Sachiko, Grady Wills and wife Betty, and Dorothy Hammons; grandchildren, Karen Joines (Mart), Chad Nations (Emily), Josh Ross (Laura), Katie Pace (Kevin), Kyle Wills (Robyn), Kristen Cuellar (Ivan), and Kelsey Purswani (Sachin); great-grandchildren, Christina Jones (Kevin), Bridget Lane (Will), Cade and Kennedy Ross, Colin, Cole, Cannon, Catelyn, and Clark Nations, Konnor, Kooper, and Kolton Pace, Jackson Lee Wills and Harper Wills, Eleanora and Amelia Cuellar, and Alessia Purswani and one on the way; and great-great-grandchildren, Emerson, Coleman, and Baker Lane.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 26, 2023, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Dennis Landtroop officiating. Interment will follow in Waldrop Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Chad Nations, Josh Ross, Kyle Wills, Konnor Pace, Colin Nations, Ivan Cuellar, Kevin Pace, and Mart Joines.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff and nurses of Winkler Place for the loving care shown to Mr. Wills.
