Graveside services for Mr. Willie Mayo, age 89 of Carthage, Texas, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 17, 2008 at the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery with Brother Jerry Phillips and Brother Bob Scott officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Mayo passed away on Monday morning, April 14, 2008 in Carthage.
Willie Mayo was born on August 6, 1918 in Panola County, Texas to William Edreth and Emmie Jane Brewster Mayo. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Mr. Mayo worked as a truck driver for Exxon many years as well as in pipeline construction, and also for the Panola County Road and Bridge Department. He married Earlene Maines on September 29, 1939 in Carthage, Texas. Mr. Mayo had lived in Panola County all of his life where he was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Earlene Maines Mayo who passed away May 31, 1998.
Mr. Mayo is survived by four daughters, Mary Lynn Solomon and husband Ray of Hawthorne, Florida, Pat Davis of Carthage, Linda Bellamy of the Riderville Community, and B. J. Mayo of Carthage; three sons, Willie Mayo, III of Osawatomie, Kansas, Charles Duane Mayo of Marshall, and Wally Gene Mayo and wife Rose of Osawatomie, Kansas; one brother, James Weldon Mayo of Ventura, California; eighteen grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are Nick Adams, Robert Lamon, Jerry Anderson, Tom Hickey, Eldon Wilkerson, and Glen Reeves.
