William C. Slaughter, Jr., 97, of DeBerry, TX, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020, at his home in DeBerry. William Candler Slaughter, Jr. was born on Oct. 26, 1922, in Atlanta, GA to the late William Candler Slaughter, Sr. and Grace Elvira McGee Slaughter. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was honorably discharged. Mr. Slaughter was an engineer by trade, having earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. He owned an electronics repair business and was a licensed real estate broker during his working career. Mr. Slaughter moved to DeBerry from Florida five years ago. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy Olive Noble Slaughter who passed away in May of 2001; a daughter, Meta Bryant; and sister, Grace Kelley.
Mr. Slaughter is survived by his daughters, Cheryl Slaughter-Riddle and husband Larry and Nancy Spanial-Blake and husband Tim; sister, Sara Hubbard; grandchildren, Sara Janes, Nick Spanial and wife Amberlee, and Will Spanial; and great-grandchildren, Branson and Benjamin Spanial.
A memorial service with military honors will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Allen Tilley officiating. A burial of ashes will take place at a later date at the Florida National Cemetery, 6502 S.W. 102nd Avenue Bushnell, FL 33513.
