Obituary

William Scott Hook of Carthage, TX, passed away Friday morning, June 21, 2024, in Tyler, TX, surrounded by loved ones. Scott was born on July 30, 1952, to William Edward "Bill" Hook and Myrna Irene Hook of Carthage, Texas, who both preceded him in death.

Scott grew up in Carthage, attending high school and Panola College, where he met the love of his life, Linda Gayle Mitchell. They married on August 18, 1973, and had two children: a daughter, Jennifer, and a son, William Justin.

After attending college, Scott took up a career in the construction industry, working at multimillion-dollar construction firms as a sought-after project manager. He always enjoyed working on home projects, remodeling room after room of the house with help from his son and family. He always had a ton of projects going, having just completed a new back deck and front patio all by himself this past Spring.

Scott was multi-layered; not only could he build just about anything, but he also loved working in the yard, planting flowers, lilies, azaleas, and fruit trees. "They make me happy," he told his daughter when she suggested he might not need to go every single week to buy new plants.

Spending time outdoors was one of Scott's favorite pastimes. He and his brother Brian would spend countless hours solving the world's problems on the back deck and celebrating life with countless bonfires. Feeding the wildlife around his yard was a big job, and he was up for it. The rabbits, foxes, raccoons, scores of birds, and squirrels will dearly miss him.

Scott was preceded in death by his sweet wife Linda, who passed away in 2022, just barely missing their 50th wedding anniversary. He persevered and made the most of his next few years, traveling on six cruises, visiting family and friends near and far, and spending a lot of time with his two kids and their partners. He loved to visit Jenn in Flint, where they would (you guessed it) go buy plants. Scott would often visit Justin in Austin, where they would go country music dancing and see all of the sights.

Scott is survived by his daughter Jennifer Showers and her husband James; his son Justin Hook and his girlfriend Dylan Hargrove; his brother Brian Hook and wife Sandy; and his sister Kristi Koonce and husband Keith. He is also survived by his two fur babies, Maggie Mae and Daisy. We all miss him tremendously.

Scott's ashes will be scattered in the Gulf of Mexico, off the coast of Galveston, where he will be reunited with his wife Linda. A celebration of life will be planned for later this year.
