Obituary

A graveside service for Mr. William Grady Cockerham, age 83, of Carthage formerly of Bonham, TX, will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013 at Willow Wild Cemetery in Bonham with Bro. Lyn Holly officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home, 2022 N. Center, Bonham, TX. Mr. Cockerham passed away on Thursday morning, Jan. 31, 2013, in Carthage. Local arrangements are under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home.

William Grady Cockerham was born on Apr. 8, 1929, in San Angelo, TX to William Franklin and Irue Westbrook Cockerham. He graduated from Mathis, TX High School with the class of 1948. He married Marjorie Belle Hubbert on Aug. 15, 1948, in Sandia, TX. Mr. Cockerham worked as a tool pusher in off-shore drilling for many years until his retirement. He loved fishing, gardening, and working with wood in his shop. Mr. Cockerham moved to Carthage recently from Bonham, where he had lived since 1966. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Doris Hendricks; and one brother, Paul Hollis Cockerham.

Mr. Cockerham is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marjorie Cockerham of Carthage; two sons, Billy Cockerham and wife Gail and Mike Cockerham and wife Sherry all of Carthage; two daughters, Carol Ellis and husband Rick of Honey Grove and Kathryn Cockerham of Wylie; one sister, Gladys Russell of Mathis; two sisters-in-law, Betty Hubbert of Bonham and Mackie Hollis of LaPorte; six grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and one on the way; and his beloved dog, Shelbi. Numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends also survive Mr. Cockerham.

Serving as pallbearers are Danny Joe Stroud, Lanny Davis, Chris Baldobino, Steve Boyd, Scott Elsaesser and Mr. Cockerham's grandsons, Dustin Cockerham, Shane Cockerham, and Cody Cockerham. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Dub Coonrod and Mike Nelson.
