Obituary

Ms. Willa Mae Cummings Porter, 87 of Alvarado, Texas, passed away Monday morning, June 13, 2022, in Burleson, Texas. She was born on June 7, 1935, in Robeson County, North Carolina, to the late Newton Cummings, Sr. and Flora Ann Lowry Cummings. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Millard, Earl Benson, Wilton, Frank and Willard; son, Robbie Lee Porter; and a grandson, Dustin Porter.

She is survived by her children, Winford Sambo Porter (Sheila), Darlene Porter Miller (Devan) and Teresa Hitt; siblings, Welthie Dial, Nina Ruth Cummings, Ella Fountain, Sarah Locklear (Rudy), Betty Maynor (Tommy), Mary Ann Locklear, Newton Cummings, Jr. (Mabel) and Carlton Cummings (Andrea); grandchildren, Kristen Mahurin (Len), Brandon Hitt, Brian Hull (Lisa), Jake Porter, Joshua Handy and Lucas Porter; and great-grandchildren, Seth Ballenger (Jodi), Cade Hubbard, Miles Mahurin, and Katelyn and Hudson Hull. She is also survived by her dear friend of 50 years, Ann Barnhart and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Willa loved family and family gatherings for holidays, birthdays and especially the annual "Cummings Family Reunion" in North Carolina. She enjoyed raising horses and ponies and was a wonderful baker and always made sure everyone had their favorite desert. She loved traveling and going to concerts, was an avid reader and loved watching the Dallas Cowboys.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at Rehobeth United Methodist Church with David Herndon officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Rehobeth Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Brandon Hitt, Brian Hull, Jim Dickinson, Lucas Porter, Frank L'Esperance, and Cade Hubbard. Honorary pallbearer is Joshua Handy.
