A funeral service for Mr. Wilburn Spiller, 84, of Carthage, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Richard Kirkner officiating. Interment will follow in Antioch Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home prior to the funeral service. Mr. Spiller passed away on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 23, 2015, in Carthage.
Wilburn Archie Spiller was born on Aug. 9, 1931, in Brazoria County, TX to the late Abel Archie and Mamie Louise Carter Spiller. He graduated from Alvin High School with the class of 1951. Mr. Spiller attended Alvin Jr. College and the University of Houston. He married Gloriann Holmes on May 29, 1965 in Alvin. He was an electrical engineer for Monsanto Chemical Co. until his retirement. Mr. Spiller was a mason and shriner having been a member of Alvin Masonic Lodge #762 and Carthage Masonic Lodge #521, and Sharon Temple Shrine in Tyler. He enjoyed competitive shooting and was a charter member of the Panola County Gun Club. Mr. Spiller also enjoyed woodworking and was a member of The Woodworkers of East Texas. He moved to Carthage in 1981 and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, Mr. Spiller was also preceded in death by his sister, Billie Louise VanNorman.
Mr. Spiller is survived by his wife, Gloriann Spiller of Carthage; son, Jason Andrew Spiller and wife Lisa of Tatum; daughters, Cathy Petrie and husband Jimmy of New Braunfels and Pam Gulledge of Crosby; 10 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
