Webster Denton, Jr., 90, of Carthage, passed away on Sunday morning, Oct. 9, 2016, in Tyler. He was born on March 5, 1926, in Panola County to the union of the late Webster Denton, Sr. and Gracie Malone Denton. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Pacific Theatre and was honorably discharged after 2 years and 2 months of active duty. He continued his service in the National Guard where he served for 23 years, attaining the rank of Staff Sgt. He married Joy Ann Williams on June 28, 1947, in Clayton, TX and she preceded him in death on July 24, 2011, after 64 years of marriage. Mr. Denton retired from the Texas Highway Dept. after 30 years. He loved to play dominoes and had quite a collection. Webster looked forward to the Denton/Sanders Reunion and attended every year, including this year. His family and friends will really miss being included in his routine excursions to find the best fried catfish. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers, M.B, Chester, Glyndal, and Bobby Carrol Denton; sisters, Lyndal Denton, Gladys Shivers, and Maggie Sue Fields; and a son-in-law, Johnny C. Kelly.
Survivors include sons, Danny Denton and wife Cathy of Yantis and Dalton Denton and wife Connie of Carthage; daughter, Betty Kelly of Richmond; brother, Alvin Denton of Austin; grandchildren, John Allen Kelly, Amy Denton Calhoun and husband Jeromie, Amanda Denton Beatty and husband Michael, Kimberly Kelly Cordova-Gigallo and husband Xavier, Karen Kelly Fuller and husband Billy, Daniel Wade Denton and wife Stephonie, and Brandon Denton and wife Shawna; and 19 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016, at Cedar Grove Baptist Church with Bro. Freddy Mason officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Dal Denton, Daniel Denton, Jimmy Rapier, Kevin Rapier, Billy Fuller, and Craig Robinson.
Honorary pallbearers are Michael Sparks and Claude Robinson.
