Obituary

A funeral service for Waymon Cecil Grimes, Sr., 79, of Riderville, will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Kirby Hill officiating. Interment will follow in Restland Memorial Park near Carthage. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Mr. Grimes passed away on Sunday morning, Aug. 10, 2014, at his home.

Waymon Cecil Grimes, Sr. was born on Aug. 29, 1934, in Carthage to the late Caesar Cecil and Ruth Robinson Grimes. He married Mattie Sue Murphy on June 14, 1952, in Arkansas and she preceded him in death on Jan. 13, 2013. He worked in the oil field until 1973, retiring to hunt, fish, and spend time with his family and grandkids. He lived most of his life in Panola County and was a member of Southside Baptist Church where he was a member of the PEP Sunday School Class.

Mr. Grimes is survived by four children, Susan Briggs and husband Wayne of Kilgore, Debbie Romero and husband Joe of Riderville, Sonny Grimes and wife Joan of Riderville, and Patricia Hardin and husband Tony of Humble; two brothers, Jerry Sipes of Tatum and Gaylon Grimes and wife Dee of Winnsboro; two sisters, Lorine Scarbo and husband David of Goodrich and Wanda Jones and husband Warren of Beckville; one brother-in-law, Robert Lee Murphy and wife Marguerite of Jacksonville; 10 grandchildren, Chad Briggs and wife Gena, Shelly Briggs, J.W. Romero and wife Susannah, Joshua Romero, Kooter Romero and wife Brie, Jason Grimes and wife Jessica, and Christina Ward and husband Paul, Clay Weems, and Kyndel and Colby Moore; 10 great-grandchildren, Megan Lammons, Ariel and Cayden Briggs, J.T. and Madison Romero, Rodey Lane Romero, Austin and Paisley Grimes, and Zoe and Zivi Ward; special caregivers, Janice Hughes and Sheree Ritter; and a special niece, Lexie Ellis. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends also survive Mr. Grimes.

Many thanks to the caregivers at Texas Home Health, Briarcliff, Texas Age and Disability, GSMC-Marshall, Dr. Suzanne Blake, and Dr. Terry Gerber.

Serving as pallbearers are Jason Grimes, J.W. Romero, Joshua Romero, Kooter Romero, Chad Briggs, Paul Ward, and Barry Wayne Bush.

Serving as honorary pallbearers are Wayne Beason, Herb Hudson, Poncho Barnett, and Dustin Williams.
