Funeral services for Mr. Watson Roland Nail, Sr., age 93 of Panola County, Texas, will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at Central Baptist Church in Carthage with Dr. William Everett and Rev. Steve Jackson officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. A Masonic graveside service will follow in Clayton Cemetery under the auspices of the Carthage Masonic Lodge #521. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. on Wednesday at the church prior to the funeral. Mr. Nail passed away on Monday afternoon, May 18, 2009, at his home in rural Panola County.
Watson Roland Nail, Sr. was born on August 17, 1915, in rural Panola County, Texas to George Homer and Louella Marshall Nail. He graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1933, and was the last male survivor of his class. He later attended Panola College. Mr. Nail married Phala Mae Morris on December 10, 1938, in Panola County. He was a Mason for over 68 years, and was currently a member of the Carthage Masonic Lodge #521. Mr. Nail was also a member of the Sharon Temple Shrine in Tyler and Waco Scottish Rite Bodies. He worked for Union Pacific Resources as a plant operator, retiring after 35 years. Mr. Nail enjoyed farming and ranching all of his life. He taught an adult Sunday school class for many years. Mr. Nail was a longtime and devoted member of Central Baptist Church in Carthage, joining in 1957. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Walton A. Nail who passed away in 1990; four sisters, Agnes Nail Reed, Bernice Nail Johnson, Sybil Nail Langford and Anna Lou Nail; and one brother, George H. Nail.
Mr. Nail is survived by his wife of over 70 years, Phala Mae Morris Nail of Panola County; one son, Roland Nail, Jr. and wife Patricia of Arlington; one daughter, Linda Dunlap and husband Wayne of Temple; one brother, Walter Leon Nail and wife Maurine of Bellville; one sister, Grace Nail Bleimeyer and husband Arthur of Houston; three grandchildren, Shelly Weber and husband Fred of Lockhart, Karen Coulter and husband A.C. of Cypress and Lisa E. Dunlap of Seattle; and one great-granddaughter, Jenna Layne Weber of Lockhart. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends also survive Mr. Nail.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Heart's Way Hospice for the loving care shown to Mr. Nail.
Serving as pallbearers are Horace Nail, Joe Dan Johnson, Clyde Homer Langford, Mike Nail, Steve Nail, and Chris Morris.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are the Adult VI Dept. Men's Sunday School Class at Central Baptist Church.
