Obituary

Funeral services for Mrs. Vivian Tompkins Lounsberry, age 80 of Carthage, Texas will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2007 at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Rodger Cole officiating. Interment will follow at Youngblood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. Mrs. Lounsberry passed away Tuesday night, January 23, 2007 in Carthage.

Vivian Lois Slife Tompkins Lounsberry was born on August 18, 1926 in York, Nebraska to Harry Clifford and Edith Conover Slife. Mrs. Lounsberry graduated from Austin High School and attended The University of Texas at Austin. She owned and operated K&K Flower Shop in Carthage for many years and later worked at the Panola County Courthouse as the Deputy District Clerk. Mrs. Lounsberry was a member and past president of the American Business Women's Association in Carthage. She married her first husband, Floyd F. Tompkins, on September 14, 1947 and he preceded her in death on November 27, 1982. She later married Edwin Earl Lounsberry on September 2, 1989. One of her favorite hobbies was sewing. Mrs. Lounsberry had lived most of her life in Panola County and was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, one son, Ronald Gene Tompkins who passed away on March 20, 1990; one sister Ruth Larson; and one grandson, Craig Stuart Tompkins.

Mrs. Lounsberry is survived by her husband, Edwin Earl Lounsberrry of Carthage; one son Tommy Tompkins and wife Deanna of Streetman; one daughter, Chris Jones and husband Doug of Plano; one sister, Betty Leder and husband Frank of Houston; four grandchildren, Cliff Tompkins and wife Sarah, Kelly Tompkins, Russell Mullins, and Courtney Mullins; numerous nephews, other relatives, and many friends also survive Mrs. Lounsberry.

Serving as pallbearers are Cliff Tompkins, Kelly Tompkins, Dan Larson, Russell Mullins, Doug Jones, and Frank Leder.
