Our Beloved Vernon Charles Sandoz, 91, of Carthage, TX passed away at home peacefully on Tuesday morning, February 6, 2024. He was born July 16, 1932, in Biloxi, Mississippi. Vernon was a USAF Korean War Veteran and a Patriot. He worked at NASA for many years in the Atlas-Centaur Rocket program and the Space Shuttle Program. He also worked in the oil and computer industry. Vernon was devoted husband to his wife and father to his four children. His favorite pastimes were studying Bible Prophecy, volunteering at church, genealogy, and traveling.
Vernon is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Phyllis Sandoz; his four children and their families, Valarie and her husband Hackel Williamson, Jeffrey Sandoz and wife Julie Baudat, Brenda and her husband Grant Gieseke, and David Sandoz; grandchildren, Daniel Gieseke, Lauren and husband David Simington, Erika Gieseke, Lindsay Gieseke, Joshua Sandoz and wife Beatriz, Andrew Sandoz, and Laura and her husband Armando Vazquez; great Grandchildren, Riley and Parker Simington; and sister, Rose Camarillo and her husband Sal. Nieces and nephews also survive.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at Word of Life in Carthage with Pastor Benny Anglin officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Interment with Military Honors will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 19, 2024, at the Northwest Louisiana Veterans in Keithville, Louisiana.
Pallbearers are David Sandoz, Hackel Williamson, Daniel Gieseke, Jeff Sandoz, Andrew Sandoz, and Erika Gieseke. Honorary pallbearers are Pastor Benny Anglin and Lindsay Gieseke.
