Vernette Burnett, 93, of Carthage, TX, passed away on Monday evening, April 15, 2024, in Carthage. Katherine Vernette Allen was born on Jan. 11, 1931, in Mt. Pleasant, TX to the late Winfred Vernette and Hattie Florine Cody Allen. She graduated from Longview High School with the class of 1947, and Kilgore College in 1949. Vernette married Pat Wendell Burnett on June 5, 1949, in Longview and he preceded her in death on Apr. 20, 1996, after 47 years together. She had lived in Shreveport, LA and Liberty, TX before moving to Carthage in 1993. After moving to Carthage, Vernette became a member of Central Baptist Church. She was very involved in the Carthage community having served on the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame and the Carthage Education Foundation Boards of Directors. Vernette was also preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Cody Ray Allen and Kay Allen.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Steve W. Burnett and Melva; son, Gary L. Burnett; grandsons, Josh Burnett (Tiffany), Jonas Burnett (Cheryl), Jake Burnett, Luke Burnett (Chevy), Sam Burnett (Jessica), and Cody Burnett (Reagan), great-grandchildren, Carter Cole Burnett, Dean Allen Burnett, Nash McCoy Burnett, Wilson James Burnett, Banks Kennedy Burnett, Kambree Alyssa Estep, and Abby Lynn Burnett; great-great grandson, Weston James Estep; niece, Angela Harper; and great-niece, Sierra Harper.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Apr. 19, 2024, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Jackson officiating. Private interment will follow at Restland Memorial Park near Carthage. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home prior to the funeral service.

Pallbearers are Josh Burnett, Jonas Burnett, Jake Burnett, Luke Burnett, Sam Burnett, and Cody Burnett.
