Graveside services for Mrs. Vera Faye Garrett, age 62 of Carthage, Texas, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 23, 2009 at Restland Memorial Park near Carthage with Bro. Rodger Cole officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Garrett passed away on Monday morning, April 20, 2009, in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Vera Faye Martin Garrett was born on July 16, 1946 in Covington, Tipton County, Tennessee to John Huley and Thelma Cain Martin. She graduated from Ferriday High School in Louisiana with the class of 1964. After high school, she attended Business College in Ferriday and graduated in 1965. Mrs. Garrett worked at Schumpert Hospital in Shreveport for over three years and then moved to Europe, where she lived for five years. Mrs. Garrett moved to Carthage in 1974 from Pasadena, Texas. She worked at Shelby Panola Savings Bank for over fifteen years. She married Francis Terrell Garrett, Jr. on July 15, 1988. Mrs. Garrett was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church.

Mrs. Garrett is survived by her husband, Francis T. Garrett, Jr. of Carthage; two sons, Aaron P. Neely and wife Kathy of Jennings, Louisiana and Sean M. Neely and wife Sheri of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one daughter, Linda Kay Garrett Smith of Napoleonville, Louisiana; two brothers, Kenneth H. Martin and wife Susan of Bossier City, Louisiana and Royce B. Martin and wife Patricia of Pineville, Louisiana; two sisters, Dayle Hinson and husband Ronald of Natchez, Mississippi and Patsy Murphy of Sarpeta, Louisiana; seven grandchildren, Darrell Smith, Bo Smith, Matthew Tucker, Nocona Neely, Jordan Rooks, Alex Rooks, and Sophia Neely.
