Funeral services for Mrs. Vena L. Boyd, age 90, of the Delray Community of Panola County, TX, will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. J.B. Morris and Rev. Wade Harman officiating. Interment will follow in Walton Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home prior to the service. Mrs. Boyd passed away on Sunday night, Feb. 14, 2010, in Tyler.

Vena Lee Copeland Boyd was born on Dec. 4, 1919, in Panola County to Henry Lee and Effie Gholston Copeland. She graduated as valedictorian from Carthage High School with the class of 1938. Mrs. Boyd earned her bachelor's degree from S.F.A. Teacher's College in Aug. of 1943, and taught in Panola and Shelby County schools. She married Joe Lafayette Boyd on June 4, 1944, in Tenaha and he preceded her in death on Jan. 10, 2001. Mrs. Boyd lived her lifetime in Panola County and was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church, where she was the church treasurer for over 20 years. She was also preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, John, Emmett, Claude, and James Copeland; and two sisters, Mable Lee and Coystal Ross.

Mrs. Boyd is survived by one son, Tony Boyd and wife Tricia of College Station, TX; two daughters, Judy Bazer of Sterlington, LA and Wanda Reagan and husband Billy of North Richland Hills, TX; seven grandchildren, Robert Bazer and wife Shonda, Matt Bazer and wife Haley, Joey Reagan and wife Patty, Lana Reagan, Kristin Howell and husband David, Joseph Boyd, and Whitney Boyd; and five great-grandchildren, Jessie Bazer, Chapman Bazer, Reilly Reagan, Avery Reagan, and Emma Howell.

Serving as pallbearers are Jimmy Boyd, David Boyd, Lonnie Copeland, Raymond Copeland, Joseph Boyd, Joey Reagan, Matt Bazer, and Robert Bazer.
