Varnell Hammons "Nell" Langford, 85, of Carthage, passed away on Friday morning, December 9, 2016, in Carthage. She was born on Nov. 6, 1931, in Carthage to the late Walter Grady and Emma Lee Jones Hammons. Mrs. Langford graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1950. She married Billy J. Langford on Dec. 10, 1949, in Beckville. Mrs. Langford earned her LVN from Panola College and worked as a nurse for many years. She was a past member of the Panola County Shrine Club Ladies Auxiliary, the Panola General Hospital/ETMC-Carthage-Ladies Auxiliary, founding member of the Panola Squares Quilt Club, and was a member of the Panola County Rose Society. She had lived her lifetime in Panola County and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church where she served as church clerk for over 30 years. Mrs. Langford was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Travis Neal Hammons and Mary Evelyn Pike.

Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Billy J. Langford of Carthage; children, Vickie Lacy of Carthage, Mark Langford and wife Janice of Carthage, Steve Langford and wife Kristie of Flint, and David Langford of Brooklyn, NY; sister-in-law, Dorothy Hammons of Carthage; special niece, Charlcye Robertson and husband Darrell of Carthage; grandchildren, Brandi LaGrone and husband Garrett, Tyler Langford, Logan Langford, and Landon Langford; and great-grandchildren, Madi, Ally, and Levi.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 11, 2016, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Bob Scott and Jerry Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in Friendship Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Buddy Langford, Bobby Langford, Garrett LaGrone, Elvin Fontenot, John Albers, and James Bolton.

Honorary pallbearers are Eldon Wilkerson, Lynn Vincent, Jim Payne, Mike Roquemore, and Ron Roquemore.
