Twilla Petty, 86, of Carthage, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 8, 2017, in Carthage. Twilla Louella Sifford was born on June 15, 1931, in Nemo, TX to the late Asa and Ova Mullens Sifford. She graduated from Glenrose, TX High School with the class of 1947. She married Edward Lee Petty on June 2, 1948, in Glenrose and he preceded her in death on Feb. 2, 2009, after 61 years of marriage. When she was younger, she enjoyed riding horses and later in life she enjoyed sewing, painting, and watching westerns. She was a kind and gentle person who loved spending time with her family and friends. Mrs. Petty moved to Carthage in 2004, from Cleburne and was a member of First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a brother, Carl Sifford.

Survivors include her children, Ovaline Vaughan of Carthage, Bruce Petty and wife Dannett of Shreveport, Debroah Smith and husband Jack of Kennedale, Cynthia Smith and husband Jim of Dessert Hot Springs, CA, Robert Petty and fiancé Cindy of Carthage, and Lynn Brandt and husband John of San Antonio; brother, Jerry Sifford and wife Sandra of Garland; 14 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren and more on the way.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and nurses with Heart's Way Hospice for the loving care shown to Mrs. Petty.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Allen Tilley officiating. Interment will follow in Langley Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be David Smith, Jacob Smith, Joe Smith, Steven Smith, Jason Smith, and Matthew Brandt. Honorary pallbearers will be Jacob Emerson and Joe Emerson.
