Thomas Benton Smith, 72, of Carthage, passed away on Monday evening, May 16, 2016, in Carthage. He was born on Oct. 12, 1943, in Camp Claiborne, LA to the late Charles Benton and Maudie Addine Moore Smith. Tommy moved to Carthage in 1960, from Arlington and went to Carthage High School and Panola College. He married Donna Kay Leach on Jan. 3, 1978, in Longview. Tommy loved woodworking, carpentry, building, and fishing. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church. Tommy was also preceded in death by a baby brother, Jerry Cleve Smith; sister, Devaun Almand; and an infant son, Charles Edward Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Smith of Carthage; children, Michael Smith and fiancé Stephanie of Carthage, Crystal Cloutier and husband Joseph of Henderson, and Tommy Smith and wife Amber of Carthage; sisters, Becky Malone and husband Bobby of Carthage and Reba Gordon and husband Don of Athens; and grandchildren, Brandon, Jacqueline, Devin, Cheyenne, Andre, Camdyn, Koby, Mason, Madelynn, and Ryder.
A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at St. John's Episcopal Church with Rev. Jennene Laurinec officiating. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. on Thursday at Huffines Cemetery in Cass County.
Pallbearers are Michael Smith, Tommy Smith, Brian Malone, Brandon Sells, Joe Cloutier, and Bobby Malone.
Honorary pallbearers are Koby Smith, Mason Smith, and Ryder Caldwell.
