Obituary
A funeral service for Mr. Thomas Pierce, age 86, of Carthage, TX, will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 29, 2013, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Barney Bryant officiating. Interment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Pierce passed away on Thursday evening, July 25, 2013, in Carthage.
Thomas Pleasant Pierce was born on Sept. 9, 1926, in Ft. Oglethorp, GA to the late John Pleasant and Jessica Faye Fogg Pierce. He attended Milby High School in Houston. Mr. Pierce served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. After his discharge from the Navy, Mr. Pierce attended the University of Houston where he studied engineering. He married Lillie Mae "Punch" Hopper on Jan. 1, 1945, in Houston and she preceded him in death on Nov. 11, 2011. Mr. Pierce was an avid fisherman and loved to tinker. He moved to Carthage in 2006, from Willis, TX where he was a member of the Calvary Road Baptist Church in Willis where he served as a deacon. He was also preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Kenneth Pierce; one son, Larry Thomas Pierce; and one great-granddaughter, Geannie Dyson.
Mr. Pierce is survived by one daughter, Sheran Bryant and husband Barney of Carthage; one sister, Lois Faye Morgan of Houston; one sister-in-law, Betty Lou Middleton and husband Ronnie of Gilliam, LA; daughter-in-law, B.G. Pierce of Humble; seven grandchildren, Robin Smith and husband Michael, Lari "Dusty" Lilly and husband Garry, Tammy Sargent and husband Matt, Mandy Scott and husband Kevin, Michael Bryant and wife Jenny-Anne, Roxie Pierce, and Ranell Bryant; fifteen great-grandchildren, Jami, Garrett, Chandler, Holly, Shelley, Colton, Lucas, Ethan, Eden, Dawson, Hayden, Avery, Chason, Gavin, and Skylir; and one great-great grandchild, Ezekiel.
Serving as pallbearers are Michael Bryant, Michael Smith, Gary Lilly, Matt Sargent, John Derr, Tom Pierce, and Bill Middleton.
