Thomas Marshall Helms, 100, of Carthage, passed away on Sunday evening, June 24, 2018, in Carthage. He was born on Sept. 22, 1917, in El Dorado, Ark. to the late George William and Mattie Green Helms. Mr. Helms attended Ouachita Baptist College in Arkadelphia, Ark. and he served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He married Vesta Pauline "Polly" Bynum on Nov. 29, 1945, in Henderson. Mr. Helms worked as a mechanic for the State of Alaska Highway Dept., retiring in 1977. He was a member of Central Baptist Church where he attended the Legacy Sunday School Class. Mr. Helms was preceded in death by sisters, Marie Pharr and Kathryn Edgmon; brothers, G.W. and Benjamin Helms; son, Tom "Tim" Helms, Jr.; and infant daughter, Sally Helms

Survivors include his wife, Polly Helms of Carthage; sons, George Patrick "Pat" Helms of Carthage; daughters, Sue Shabo and husband Rick of Camano Island, WA, Dawn Jacobs and husband Ronnie of McRae, Ark., and Lori Walter and husband Ed of Aubrey, TX; daughter-in-law, Jeannene Helms Horn of Shelbyville; 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and special nephew, Tom Pharr.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at Central Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Jackson and Dr. Monty Pierce officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Paul Helms, Michael Henry, Matt Lawrence, Matt Knight, Tim Orten and Tate Allison.

Honorary pallbearers are Mark Helms, Robbie Jacobs, Troy Woodard and the Legacy Sunday School class.
