Thomas Patrick "Tom" Hanlon, Jr. was born on Sept. 23, 1930, on the family farm nine miles east of Arnett, OK. He was one of nine children born to Thomas P. Hanlon, Sr. and Gertrude Meunier Hanlon. Tom graduated from Arnett High School with the class of 1948, and attended Oklahoma A&M Tech where he received an associates degree in diesel mechanics. He served in the United States Air Force as a Military Policeman and was stationed at Upper Heyford AFB in England and Ellsworth AFB in Rapid City, SD. One sister and four of his brothers also served in the military. On Aug. 3, 1963, Tom married Linda Diane Stull at Christ United Methodist Church in Enid, OK. They celebrated forty-nine years of marriage earlier this year. He and Linda moved to Carthage in 1971, from Enid. Tom retired from Union Pacific Resources in 1988, and then served as the operator for Rehobeth Water System for fifteen years. His hobby was working and fixing things around the house so he would not have to buy something new. Tom was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Francis Hanlon, John Hanlon, Pat Hanlon, and Ed Hanlon; and one sister, Christine Kay. His brother, John, was lost on a flight from China to India in 1944, towards the end of WWII. His plane was found 60 years later in Tibet. The bodies of the crew were recovered and buried with full honors in Arlington National Cemetery in 2005. Tom was a member of Rehobeth United Methodist Church.
Tom is survived by his wife, Linda Hanlon of Carthage, TX; daughter, Jennifer Hanlon of Nacogdoches, TX; son, Nathan Hanlon of Dallas, TX; brother, Jim Hanlon of Tulsa, OK; sister, Cathryn Brown and husband Wilbur of Panhandle, TX; sister, Clara Jane Alexander and husband Jerry of Woodward, OK; three sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.
