Tammy Denise Fields Abshire, 54, of Gary, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016. She was born on June 27, 1962, in Carthage to Jerrel Henry and Linda Kay Mayhaw Fields. She graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1980. Tammy married Kirk Gerard Abshire on Aug. 20, 1982, in Carthage. She was a loving, giving, and caring person who cherished her family. Tammy was a member of the Abundant Life Church in Carthage. She was preceded in death by a brother, Clint Allen Fields in 1995; her son, Matthew Dillon Abshire in 2009; and her in-laws, Mitha and Edison Abshire.

Survivors include her parents, Jerrel and Linda Fields of Carthage; husband, Kirk Abshire of Gary; daughter, Stevi Abshire Fitch and husband Brad of Waskom; step-son, Brandon Stone of Denham Springs, LA; brother, Scottie Fields of Carthage; sister, Sheila Hutto of Carthage; grandchild, Christian Stone; special niece, Brooke Handy and her children, Tyler, Cy, and Corbyn; and nephews, Zachari Fincher and Jeremy, Joey, and Jarrett Fields. Numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, other relatives, and many friends also survive Tammy.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2016, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Sister Betty Wills officiating. Interment will follow in Restland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Christian Stone, Brandon Stone, Shayne Shadowens, Casey Ishee, Colton Holland, Cody Mayo, and Tyler Fitch.
