Sue Waldrop Smith, 89, met her Lord on Monday evening, March 18, 2019, in Denton, TX. Sue Dean Waldrop Smith was born on Jan. 26, 1930, in Brooks Community of Panola County, TX near Carthage, TX to the late Melvin Gray and Bonnie Ester Gentry Smith. She graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1946, and attended Tyler Jr. College. She married John Lamar Smith, Jr. on July 14, 1949, and they celebrated over 56 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on Nov. 3, 2005. Mrs. Smith worked as the bookkeeper in the offices of doctors Wilson and Tucker for 12 years. The next fifteen years were spent living in Singapore, Indonesia, and Scotland with her family. One of her favorite memories from her time in Southeast Asia was knowing and working with missionaries. While living in Scotland, Mrs. Smith and her husband were involved in starting the International Baptist Church, now known as the Hillview Community Church in Aberdeen. Upon their retirement in 1986, she owned and operated The County Fair in Carthage for twelve years. Mrs. Smith enjoyed her retirement in Hideaway, TX and Salida, CO, where she enjoyed church, friends, family, and bible study. She had a great love for her family and they for her. She will be missed by all who knew her. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Felton Waldrop and a sister, Joan Waldrop Rogers.
She is survived by her children, Betsy Stucky and husband Mark of Celina, Steve Smith of Carthage, and daughter Kay Leach and husband Rob of Grapevine; grandchildren, Ashli Wolf and husband David of Argyle, Clay Woodward of Grapevine and Haley Woodward of Addison; great-grandchildren, Joseph and Ava Wolf; brother, James Waldrop and wife Joyce of Crockett; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2019, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Johnnie Gay Dunn and Ricky Waldrop officiating. Interment will follow in Waldrop Cemetery in the Brooks Community. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers for Mrs. Smith will be Clay Woodward, Joseph Wolf, David Gates, James Rogers, Jake Waldrop, and Jimmie Dale Dunn.
