Obituary

Steward Hollar, 91, of Longview, Texas, passed away on Wednesday morning, January 3, 2024, in Longview. He was born on November 5, 1932, in Granite Falls, North Carolina to the late Homer Coy and Zella Mary Woodruff Hollar. Mr. Hollar married Pansy Ruth (Betty) Brewster on October 29, 1955, in Shreveport, Louisiana and she preceded him in death on December 15, 2009, after 54 years together. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 26 years before being honorably discharged in 1978. After the Air Force, he moved from Abilene, Texas to Longview where he worked at Crown Products for 13 years before his second retirement. He was a member of Greggton Global Methodist Church. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Steward was also preceded in death by siblings Ruth Annas, Verlee Clark, Clayton Hollar, and Kathleen (Sis) Beech.

Steward was a musician, playing guitar and singing lead in bands beginning in the 1950's and continuing on throughout most of his life. Beginning in the 2000s he transitioned to singing and performing as an Elvis Presley tribute artist, where he found a special delight performing as Elvis in local nursing homes in the Longview area. One of Steward's main joys in life was to make people laugh. He would cut up, dress up, act up, just about anything he could do to bring a laugh to people he was with at the time, whether it was a few people, a family gathering, on stage, and even on-line. Besides laughter and his long marriage with Betty, another special love of his life was Fay Wright. Even though Fay and Steward found each other later in life, their love and bond was deep and strong. Fay preceded Steward in death on August 18, 2023.

Steward is survived by his son, Keith Hollar and wife Michele of Weatherford, Texas; sister, Juanita Miller, of Belmont, North Carolina; granddaughter, Meredith Hollar, of Dallas, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
