Obituary

Funeral services for Spc. Lee Adair, age 26 of Carthage, Texas will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, July 9, 2007 at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Freddy Mason officiating. Interment will follow with full military honors at Walnut Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Spc. Adair, United States Army Infantry, was killed in action on Friday evening, June 29, 2007 in Baghdad, Iraq from wounds sustained when his vehicle struck an improvised explosive device.

Spc. James Lee Adair was born on November 16, 1980 in Cameron County, Texas to James Clayton and Risa Roberts Adair. Lee attended Carthage Schools where he played football. He married Chelsea Nation on July 15, 2006 at Liberty Chapel Baptist Church near Carthage. Lee was currently in the United States Army and was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, from Fort Riley, Kansas. During his service, he posthumously attained the rank of Specialist and has been awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star Medal, and the Army Good Conduct Medal. Lee was the only active duty member of the American Legion Post # 353 in Carthage. He had lived in Carthage most of his life and was of the Baptist faith. Lee was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Mary Roberts and his paternal grandfather, Clarence Adair.

Spc. Adair is survived by his wife, Chelsea Adair of DeBerry; one daughter on the way, Avery Lee Adair (due in September); father, Jimmy Adair of Harlingen; mother, Risa Adair of Carthage; paternal grandmother, Irene Grissom and husband Billy of Harlingen; maternal grandfather, Cole Roberts and wife June of Carthage; one sister, Amanda Townsend and husband Jason of the Fairplay Community; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Andrea and Eddie Nation of DeBerry; four uncles, Billy Adair and wife Heather of Harlingen, Randy Roberts and wife Rebecca of Carthage, Russell Roberts and wife Cindy of Carthage, and Rick Roberts of Carthage; one aunt, Shari Fontenot and husband Jon Paul of Austin; two nieces, Ashlynn and Madison Townsend of the Fairplay Community; and one nephew, Christian Townsend of the Fairplay Community.
