A funeral service for Mrs. Shirley Jean Reed Benson, age 88, of Logansport, IN, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at Kroeger Funeral Home, 711 E. Market St., Logansport, IN with Rev. Doug Mankell officiating. Interment will follow in Davis Cemetery in Burnettsville. The family will receive friends for a visitation from 3-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2013, at Kroeger Funeral Home. Mrs. Benson passed away on Sunday morning, June 2, 2013, in Carthage, TX. Local arrangements are under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home.

Mrs. Benson was born on July 15, 1924, in Henderson, IL to David and Florence Pople Reed. She graduated from Galesburg, IL High School with the class of 1942. Mrs. Benson married William Jesse Benson on Jan. 19, 1951, in Reynolds, White County, Indiana. She worked as a telephone operator for AT&T and General Telephone Companies until her retirement. Mrs. Benson was a long-time member of the Salvation Army. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, David and Edward Reed.

Mrs. Benson is survived by her husband of 62 years, William Jesse Benson of Logansport, IN; two sons, Stanley Benson and companion Tony Little of the Rock Hill Community in Panola County, TX and Curtis Benson and wife Peggy of Lucerne, IN; four grandchildren, Joshua Benson, Jerrica Weaver and husband Phil, Linsey Reed and husband Kyle, and Tony Corn and companion Angie Heisham; and four great-grandchildren, Joshua Benson, Jr., Jenna Weaver, Blaine Weaver, and Eli Reed.
