Shirley Pierce, 80, of Carthage, TX, passed away on Sunday night, March 17, 2019, in Tyler. Shirley Ann Smith Pierce was born on Aug. 17, 1938, in Center, TX to the late Elvin Hollis and Lurlene Raymond Smith. She graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1956. Mrs. Pierce began her working career as a stewardess with Delta Airlines. She later worked as a secretary for several Panola County government entities. Mrs. Pierce lived most of her life in Panola County and was a member of Carthage Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur Pierce who passed away Sept. 29, 1997; and brother and sister-in-law, Marcus Smith and Mary Ann Smith.

Survivors include her daughter, Dianne Attaway and husband Raymond of Carthage; son, Jasper Pierce and wife Virginia of Carthage; step-children, Everett Pierce and wife Mary of Carthage and Sherry Moore of Carthage; brother, Jackie Smith and wife Sybil of Carthage; grandchildren, Ashley Ginsel and husband Lance, Erica Guill, Hannah Cuff and fiancé Chance Haynie, Jackson Pierce, and Rilee Brittain; and great-grandchildren, Bryson Guill and Brynlie Ginsel. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends also survive.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 22, 2019, at Restland Memorial Park with Rev. J.D. Pierce officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow in Restland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
