Obituary

Richard Scott Jones Acker, 72, of Beckville, Texas passed away Saturday morning, February 5, 2022 at his home in Beckville. Scott was born September 16, 1949 in Evansville, Indiana to Richard Everett and Imogene Burris Jones and later adopted by Tommy Eual and Olive Allen Acker. He attended school in Carmi, Illinois, Longview, Texas, graduated from Beckville High School with the class of 1967 and attended Panola College. Mr. Acker served his country through the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Scott married Florence Diane Powell on July 16, 1971 in Longview, Texas and together they celebrated 50 years. He worked for the City of Beckville and later the U.S. Postal Service where he retired after 20 years. Mr. Acker was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in the Harris Chapel Community and was baptized in 1963. He loved wood working, sports, family, gardening, studying God's word and heated discussions on world events. Scott is preceded in death by his biological and adopted parents; brother-in-law, Bruce Maines; nieces and nephew, Cassie Talu Acker, Lisa Hicks Brinkman and Dewayne Acker.

Survivors include his loving wife, Diane Acker of Beckville; children, Jason Acker and wife Jennifer of Bullard, Mindy Casterline and husband Todd of Beckville, Jessica Latham and husband Chris of Beckville, Daniel Acker of Liberty City; grandchildren, Candace Miller and husband Derek, Morgan Alvarado and husband Alex, Kenzy Latham, Covie Latham, Kayla Casterline, Aubrey Acker, Gage Acker and Leighton Acker; great grandchildren, Susie and Silas Miller; siblings, Gary Acker and wife Kay of Galloway, Tracy Acker and wife Kelly of Beckville, Polly Maines of Antioch and Wendy Harsin and husband Mike of Quinlan. Numerous other relatives and a host of friends also survive Mr. Acker.

Graveside services with military honors will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at the Harris Chapel Cemetery with Jerry Standley officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Services are under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home, 1131 State Hwy 149, Carthage, Texas 75633.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Olive Acker Memorial Scholarship at Beckville ISD.
