Obituary

A funeral service for Sally Moore, 89, of Carthage, will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, at First United Methodist Church, with Pastors Keefe Cropper, Leah Hanks and Megan Davidson officiating. Interment will follow in Rock Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday at Jimerson-Lipsey funeral home. Mrs. Moore passed away on Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 20, 2014, in Carthage.

Sara Elizabeth Davidson Moore was born on March 31, 1925, in Hughes Springs to the late Ray Vernon and Claudia Gladys Kenna Davidson. She graduated from Port Arthur Thomas Jefferson High School with the class of 1943 and attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She also attended the University of Texas at Tyler and Panola College.

She married Howard Delwin Moore Jr. on Oct. 21, 1950, at First United Methodist Church in Carthage. Mrs. Moore worked for many years as a bookkeeper at Patterson Insurance, then taught private piano lessons until her retirement. Mrs. Moore was a longtime member of Carthage Music Club, and together Sally and Del participated in Carthage Club, 32 Club, the former Village Players, and a monthly bridge club. She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church, where she led children's choirs and sang in the chancel choir for more than 60 years.

Mrs. Moore is survived by her loving husband of over 63 years, Del Moore of Carthage; one daughter, Margaret Ann (Molly) Reader and husband Dirk of Flower Mound; one son, Richard Lynn Moore and wife Tanya of Beckville; one brother, Ray V. Davidson of Tyler; and three grandchildren, Claire Reader, Dakota Moore and Julia Reader.

Serving as pallbearers are her great-nephews: Rod Davidson, Adam Carroll, Kevin Davidson, Worth Carroll, Kyle Nelson and Jason Davidson.

Serving as honorary pallbearers are Robert Jensen, Wayne Kyle, Dakota Moore, St. Clair (Quinn) Newbern, V, and Donnie McNeely.
