Ruth Shull, 96, of Carthage, Texas, died peacefully in the early morning of Thursday, March 10, 2022. Ruth Mae Schachterle was born on Dec. 8, 1925, in Ackley, Iowa, to the late August and Eva Scourick Schachterle. Ruth attended nursing school in Des Moines and did her nursing training at various hospitals in the Houston area including St. Joseph's. While in Houston, she met Lavon Rushing Shull. They were married in 1947, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 21, 1993, after 46 years together. They moved to Carthage in 1958, and Mrs. Shull enjoyed a 28-year career at Panola General Hospital before her retirement. She was a member and elder of St. Paul Presbyterian Church in Carthage. Ruth was a devoted mother, wife, registered nurse, and member of her community.  After retiring from nursing, she was a faithful volunteer.  She gave of her time to the Texas Tea Room for 19 years, the Carthage Service League for 22 years, Heartsway Hospice for 9 years, Briarcliff Nursing Home for 10 years, the John Logan Outlet, Child Protective Serves, and her church.  Ruth Received the Panola County Volunteer of the Year Award in 2012. She loved the Lord and was a faithful servant.  Ruth loved her family and friends dearly.  She brought light into every room she entered.  She loved to travel and she always put others first.  Ruth will be greatly missed by all those she touched. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, LaGaye Marie Shull Jacobs; great-granddaughter, Emory Hope Turner; and sister, Norma Janssen.

This was Ruth's Daily Prayer: " Lord, I don't know what this day will bring.  I accept it as Your gift to me and I ask You to help me live it as well as I can with confidence that You will see me through all that happens – good and bad.  Thank You for the peace that faith in You can bring.  Help me never to lose faith in You.  Amen.

She is survived by her sons, Robert Shull and wife Kathryn and Don Shull; daughters, Susan Randolph and husband Blake and Carol Turner and husband Richard; grandchildren, Chris Shull, John Turner and wife Julie, Tiffanie Wood-Heath, Amy Jacobs Carter, Michael Randolph, Eric Turner and wife Danin, Katie Tewart and husband Nathan, Randall Shull and wife Erica, and Kelsey Musgrove and husband Justin; and great-grandchildren, Kathryn Grace Louise Wood-Heath, Harrison Lewis Wood-Heath, Ava Kate Shull, John Morgan Musgrove, Beckett Dane Shull, Brooks Ryan Musgrove, Autumn Eliza Tewart, Norah Rain Tewart, Simon Woods Tewart, Ella Kate Turner, Brittyn Elizabeth Turner, Baylee Monroe Turner, Brandon Carter, and Ashley Carter. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends also survive Mrs. Shull.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Buddy Bankhead and Robert Adamson officiating. Interment will follow in Restland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Chris Shull, John Turner, Eric Turner, Randall Shull, Michael Randolph, Nathan Tewart, and Justin Musgrove. Honorary pallbearers are R.D. Green and Dwain Brady.

With much gratitude and love, Ruth's family thanks each and every one from the bottom of our hearts, her friends and family for all their love, prayers, support, cards, flowers, phone calls, and the wonderful meals you have given her over the past months. You are a blessing to our sweet precious momma – she loved you all!!  The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Heartsway Hospice and UT Health Carthage Hospital.
