Graveside services for Mrs. Ruth ElNora Cates, age 81, of Bossier City, LA, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 22, 2009, at Carter Cemetery near DeBerry with Rev. Al Van Dyke officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the cemetery on Tuesday. Mrs. Cates passed away on Friday evening, December 18, 2009, in Bossier City.
Ruth ElNora Vice Cates was born on July 22, 1928, in Doyline, LA to Frank Larion and Fannie Gertrude Mitchell Vice. Mrs. Cates married Lloyd Dale "L.D." Cates in February of 1968, in Las Vegas. She loved traveling and lived at numerous places around the world such as Athens, Greece; St. Lucia in South Africa; Quito, Ecuador; Spain, Brazil, and many others. Mrs. Cates has lived in Bossier City, La. since 2005, moving from Odessa,Texas.. She was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Cates was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Leeman, Curtis, and Frank Vice; two sisters, Jessie Southern and Alma Vann; and one grandson Dalton Guill, and beloved nephew, Eugene Southern.
Mrs. Cates is survived by her husband of 41 years, L. D. Cates of Odessa; two sons, Charles Guill and wife Mary of DeBerry and Richard Glen "Dunk" Guill and wife Michelle of Broaddus,Tx.; three daughters, Rita Allen Formby of Bossier City, Joyce Wallace of Las Vegas, and Patricia Allen Marinko of California; two brothers, Emmet Vice and T-Bo Vice both of Odessa; ten grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive Mrs. Cates.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Cypress Point Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, her "special caretaker",Bessie Larkins of Bossier City, Rose Montez of Odessa, Rev. Al Van Dyke and the Life Path Hospice Staff, Billie Carroll with Marketplace Chaplains for all of the loving care shown to Mrs. Cates during her illness.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are grandsons, J. Formby, A.J. Guill, Aaron Pepper and Mike Burlison.
