Obituary

A graveside service for Mr. Rudolph Arnold, 83, of Carthage, TX, will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at Mt. Bethel Cemetery near Gary, TX with Dr. Kirby Hill and Bro. Thad Mills officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Arnold passed away on Monday morning, Dec. 2, 2013, in Carthage.

Rudolph Arnold was born on Feb. 19, 1930, in Long Branch, TX to the late Tommy Ray and Aunelia Murphy Arnold. He attended Gary Schools. Mr. Arnold served his country in the U.S. Army from 1949-1952, during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. Mr. Arnold married Pauline Grant on March 31, 1951 and she preceded him in death on Dec. 27, 1975. He married Ellen Jane Pendleton on June 3, 1995, at Mt. Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. Mr. Arnold worked as a maintenance foreman for Tyson Foods for many years until his retirement. He moved to Carthage in 1970, from Gary and was a member of the Mt. Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. In addition to his parents and first wife, Mr. Arnold was also preceded in death by an infant son, Roger Dale Arnold; one brother, Tommy Arnold; and two sisters, Joan Hall and Gladys Lazarine.

Mr. Arnold is survived by his wife, Ellen Arnold of Carthage; one daughter, Nelda Jane Arnold of Carthage; one son, Johnny Arnold and wife Charlotte of Huntsville; three step-children, Lonnie and Cathy Reed of Carthage and Sandra Reed of Plantersville; one sister, Peggy Lynn Vandiver and husband Norman of Lake Cherokee; brother-in-law, Dock Lazarine of Gary; two grandchildren, Sabrina Lutz and Nathan Arnold; nine step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three step-great grandchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends also survive Mr. Arnold.
