A funeral service for Mrs. Ruby Jewel Pirtle, age 98 years, of Carthage, TX, will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Kirby Hill officiating. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at Liberty Hill Cemetery in Tyler. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Mrs. Pirtle passed away on Wednesday night, March 5, 2014, in Carthage.

Ruby Jewel Weatherly Pirtle was born on Sept. 24, 1915, in Nacogdoches County, TX, near Garrison to the late Sam Jackson and Clemmie Mae Tarver Weatherly. Mrs. Pirtle worked as a LVN, having been trained at Mother Francis Hospital in Tyler and later working at the Texas Pacific Hospital in Marshall and at Panola General Hospital in Carthage. She retired after 32 years in nursing. Mrs. Pirtle loved to fish. She moved to Carthage in 1953, from Tyler and was a member of the Southside Baptist Church.

Mrs. Pirtle is survived by two sons, Walter Reed Dean and wife Joyce of Jefferson and Dewitt Dean and wife Evon of Carthage; one brother, Bobby Weatherly of Conroe; three sisters, Billie Jean Barnhardt of Douglas, Margaret Spivey of Garrison, and Bettie Joyce Young and husband Jim of Garrison; six grandchildren; and numerous great and great-great grandchildren also survive Mrs. Pirtle.
