Royce James Palmer, age 74, of Lake Cherokee, Texas, passed away on Saturday morning, October 25, 2025, at his home. He was born on July 17, 1951, in Lubbock, Texas, to the late LeRoy Russell and Mozelle Gertie Jones Palmer. Royce graduated from Tatum High School with the class of 1970, and attended Stephen F. Austin State University where he earned his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Education. He married Karen Sue Nail on August 17, 1974, in Tatum. Royce began his 37-year teaching career as a coach and teacher at San Augustine, Tatum, and Garrison. He served as Principal at Madisonville and as Assistant Principal at Kirbyville, where he worked until his retirement. Royce moved to Lake Cherokee in 2016, and he enjoyed fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Karen Palmer; sons, Chase and Lance Palmer; brother, Robin Palmer and wife Malantha; and nieces, Latisha McLaughlin and husband Shane and Candice Mace and husband Jeffrey.
The family will receive friends for a visitation from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home.
