Funeral services for Mr. Roy Lee Butler, age 76, of Henderson, Texas, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel, 1131 SH 149, Carthage, Texas with Reverend Carroll Brooks officiating. A Masonic graveside service will follow in Waldrop Cemetery in the Brooks Community of Panola County, Texas under the auspices of the Carthage Masonic Lodge #521 A.F. & A.M. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 12 Noon on Saturday at the funeral home. Mr. Butler passed away on Friday morning, September 25, 2009, at the home of his son, Randy Butler, in Gainesville, Texas.
Roy Lee Butler was born December 11, 1932, in Center, Texas to Bowden Butler and Nobie Vincent Hopson Butler. He married Audine Williams on August 8, 1952 in Carthage and she preceded him in death on January 5, 2005. Mr. Butler graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1950. He was a member of the Carthage Masonic Lodge # 521 for more than 50 years and was a member of the Liberty Missionary Baptist Church near the Fair Play Community of Panola County. Mr. Butler was active until near the end of his life. He always had an undying love of livestock, especially horses which has been instilled in his son, Randy; granddaughter, Lydia; and his niece, Stacy. Roy loved working with cattle and horses and marketing hay. He also dearly loved driving equipment and trucks and he never met a stranger. He was very blessed to have had three wonderful hospice workers, Debbie Perry, Kelly Lamkin, and Pam Wilson. He loved and cherished each one of them and all they did for him. Mr. Butler was also preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Eva Jo Hooper; and a nephew, Jody Hooper.
Mr. Butler is survived by his
son, Randy Butler and wife Sharon of Gainesville; his granddaughter, Lydia Aileen Cotton and husband Adam; one sister, Sue Butler Parish; two nieces, Stacy Harris and Donna Jackson; and three nephews, Brad and Bart Bowley and Russell Parish.
Serving as pallbearers are David Mansinger, Fred Vannier, Jeff Harmon, Joe Addison, Robbie Strahan, Greg Pope, and Micky West.
