Obituary

A funeral service for Mrs. Rosie Lee "Mother" Lister, 94, of Beckville, TX, will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. A. L. Sims officiating. Interment will follow in Tabernacle Shiloh Cemetery near Beckville. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Mrs. Lister passed away on Thursday morning, Nov. 7, 2013, in Carthage.

Rosie Lee Boyd Lister was born on Jan. 7, 1919, in Harrison County, TX to Jessie and Mattie Shepard Boyd. She attended Harrison County schools while she was growing up. At an early age, she accepted Christ at St. John Baptist Church in Marshall. Mrs. Lister married Abe Lister on Apr. 2, 1938, in Beckville and he preceded her in death on May 18, 1996. She enjoyed quilting. Mrs. Lister was a member of the Herons of Jericho. She lived most of her life near Beckville and was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church where she served as an usher, taught Sunday school, and was the mission's president. She was also preceded in death by one son, Henry James Lister; two brothers, James L. Shepard and Johnny Boyd; one sister, Ella Marie Williams; one grandchild, Ruby Jackson; and two great-grandchildren, Victoria Hooker and Bradley Jackson.

Mrs. Lister is survived by five daughters, Mattye Lister Fields and husband Charles of Houston, Jessie Tatum of Beckville, Johnnie Collier and husband Elijah of Carthage, Eva Graham of Houston, and Ruby Preston and husband Tony of Pearland; one son Horace Edward Lister and wife Lessie of Houston; one sister, Sylvia Carter and husband Manuel of Houston; 18 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends also survive Mrs. Lister.

Serving as pallbearers are Paul Lister, Lavert Lister, Bryan Fite, Keith Isaac, Gary Whitten, and Joe Lister.

Serving as honorary pallbearers are Horace E. Lister, Elijah Collier, Jr., Tony B. Preston, and Charles E. Fields.
