Roger Neil Reed, age 80, of the Chalk Hill Community in Rusk County, Texas, passed away on Saturday morning, July 26, 2025, at his home. He was born on March 27, 1945, in Baytown, Texas to the late James Rayford and Verline Louise Derrett Reed. Roger graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown with the class of 1963. He married Linda Sue Bennett on December 23, 1963, in Dayton, Texas and she preceded him in death on July 13, 2022, after almost 59 years together. Roger worked as a lineman for SWEPCO until his retirement in 2008. He loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting. Roger had numerous trophy mounts in his home including ones he got on 2 safaris he went on to Africa. He liked photography and would take trips to Colorado just to enjoy the scenery. Roger more recently took up target shooting as a hobby. He moved to the area in 1970, from Baytown and was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church. In addition to his parents and wife, Roger was preceded in death by a sister, Donna Sue Liles and a brother-in-law, Phil Harris.

He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Davidson and husband Edwin; son, Vernon Reed and wife Michelle; sister, Janie Harris; brother-in-law, Eddie Liles; mother-in-law, Wilma Bennett; and grandchildren, James Davidson and wife Holly, John Davidson, and Caleb Reed.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Lakeview Baptist Church with Bro. Sam Newton officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Chalk Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. on Thursday at the church prior to the funeral service.

Pallbearers are James Davidson, John Davidson, Caleb Reed, Brad Brown, Tommy Farnham, and Wes Shippey.

Honorary pallbearer is Tommy Anderson.
