Obituary

Graveside services for Mr. Robert Yates Pike, age 84 of Carthage, Texas, will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at Restland Memorial Park Cemetery near Carthage with Reverend Larry Tyler officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home before the graveside service. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2008 at St. Paul Presbyterian Church in Carthage with Brother Freddy Mason officiating. Mr. Pike passed away on Saturday night, December 29, 2007 in Carthage.

Robert Yates Pike was born on January 4, 1923 in DeBerry, Texas to Robert Lee and Lena Ione Yates Pike. He graduated from Boling High School in Boling, Texas and attended the University of Houston. Mr. Pike served his country for six years in United State Army during WWII in the Medical Corps and the Combat Engineers attaining the rank of Corporal before being honorably discharged. He was a member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion. He married Hazel Marie Ebarb on November 15, 1950 in Elysian Fields, Texas at the Methodist parsonage. Mr. Pike worked in the printing business. He served on the Carthage City Commission, the Panola County Fresh Water District #1, and the Panola County Appraisal District Board for many years. Mr. Pike had lived in Carthage since 1958 moving from DeBerry and was a member and elder at St. Paul Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, George Alexander, Jr. in 1999.

Mr. Pike is survived by his wife of 57 years, Hazel Marie Pike of Carthage; one daughter, Linda Lee Alexander and husband George of Devine; one granddaughter, Dr. Erin Lee Alexander of Uvalde; and six first cousins, Martha Hamilton and husband Bobby of Linden, J. C. Pike and wife Nelene of Carthage, James Lloyd Pike and wife Grace of Plano, Shirley Clements and husband Jay of Atlanta, Ralph Cadenhead and wife Geneva of DeBerry, and Ailene McLellan of Bossier City. Numerous other relatives and many friends also survive Mr. Pike.

Serving as pallbearers are Danny Yates, Darrell Yates, Dr. Dean Yates, E. H. "Buck" Reid, Joe Hamilton, Bobby Hamilton, Dwain Brady, and John Pepper.
