Funeral services will be held for Robert M. (Bob) Monk, 84, at the chapel of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Homer on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be Rev. Rusty Gilbert. Interment will follow at Colquitt cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Local arrangements under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home.
Mr. Monk was born Feb. 18, 1922 to William Wood Monk and Sarah Christian Monk. He entered into rest Friday, June 23 in Carthage, TX following a prolonged illness. Mr. Monk was the owner/operator of Monk Pipe Testing in Hobbs, NM and retired in 1986. He was a graduate of La Tech and was a US Army-Air Force veteran of WWII. Mr. Monk served 5 years in Italy, flying the P-51 and a navigator on the B-17. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.
Mr. Monk was preceded in death by his parents; also his sisters, Rebecca Bond Chunning, Allyne M. Austen and Shirley M. Piatt; his brother, Samuel "Bo" Monk and his son, Robert Merrel Monk, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Louise Richardson Monk of Gary, TX/Homer, LA; daughter, Mona Lisa Botzong of Minden, LA; step-children, Richard Nolen of Homer and Mary Jo Kayser and husband, Kim of Shreveport; sisters, Margie M. Michael and husband, Joe of Homer, Gloria M. Ham of Homer and Sarah Jane Foster and husband, Doyan of Shreveport; brother, John William Monk and wife, Juanita of El Dorado, AR; grandchildren, Millicent M. Martin and husband, Jimmy, Marco Botzong, Matthew Botzong, Nelson Nolen, Kate Nolen, Eloise Graf and husband, Sanders, Alexis Green and husband, Rob, Elise Kayser and Mary Catherine Kayser; three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Dave Merrell, Joe Ellis Michael, Nelson Nolen, Joe Richardson, Wayne White and Gene Berry.
