Robert Hutchins, 84, of Crockett, Texas, formerly of Dickinson, Texas, passed away Wednesday evening, February 21, 2024, in Crockett. Robert Jeffrey Hutchins was born on June 24, 1939, in Bossier City, Louisiana, to the late Robert Ray and Vesta Rae Bell Hutchins. He graduated from LaMarque High School Class of 1957, and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from Stephen F. Austin State University. Robert started his career as a school teacher, then later worked in the insurance industry and in financial planning. Robert loved working on his farm in Tenaha, and from a young age he enjoyed breaking and training horses. He was also preceded in death by a brother, R. Clayton Hutchins.
Robert is survived by his brother, Walter "Sam" Hutchins and spouse Laura; girlfriend, Velmanel Petty; sister-in-law, Una Hutchins; nephews, Bradley Ray Hutchins and spouse Marie, Gregory Wayne Hutchins and spouse Stefanie, Brenton Lee Hutchins, and Gary Hutchins and spouse Alex; and nieces, Holly Hutchins and spouse Brandie and Nicole Rae Hutchins. Numerous great nieces and great nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends also survive.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at Shiloh Baptist Cemetery in Keatchie, Louisiana, under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Walter Hutchins, Greg Hutchins, Brent Hutchins, and Gary Hutchins.
