Richard Wilmot Matthews, 78, of Tatum, TX, passed away on Tuesday morning, Nov. 2, 2021, in Kilgore, TX. He was born Dec. 29, 1942, in Tatum to the late Oliver Williams "O.W." Matthews and Willard Marguerite Williams Matthews. Richard was raised in Tatum and graduated from Tatum High School. Mr. Matthews worked for Stroh's Brewery in Longview and retired after 30 plus years. Richard loved hunting, fishing and all things outdoors. He always had a kind word and would help anyone in need. Richard loved God, his family and his animals. He was dearly loved and will be deeply missed. Richard in preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Paul Matthews and Gus Matthews; and grandson Tomas Alvarez.

Mr. Matthews is survived by his son, Jim Matthews and wife Melissa of Tatum; daughter, Carla Matthews of Tatum; brother, Joe Matthews and wife Katie of Ardmore, OK; grandchildren, Whitney Harrod, Dameion Simon, Rainie Donovan, James Rodgers, Devin Rodgers; great grandchildren, Dareion Harrod, Rainbow Smith, Landon Donovan and Declan Rodgers. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousin and friends also survive Richard.

Graveside services will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at Tatum Cemetery with Bro. Bob Scott officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday evening from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.

Honorary pallbearers will be Pinky Matthews, Mark Stewart, Brandon Harrod, Dameion Simon, James Rodgers and Devin Rodgers.
