Obituary

Funeral services for Reverend Donald W. Scott, age 67 of Carthage, Texas will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 27, 2006 at First United Methodist Church of Carthage with Orville Scott, Dr. Lane Scott, Mervin Scott, Reverend John Morrison, and Reverend Paul Thomasson officiating. Interment will follow at Restland Memorial Park Cemetery near Carthage under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday evening at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Scott passed away on Monday, July 24, 2006 in Dallas, Texas after a brief illness.
Donald Windell Scott was born on March 30, 1939 in Nacogdoches, Texas to Lacy Aubrey and Katie Mae Sistrunk Scott. Mr. Scott graduated from Carthage High School in 1957 and Lon Morris College in 1959 where he earned his associate degree. He attended Asbury College in Kentucky where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in 1961 and later earned his Master's Degree from Stephen F. Austin State University. He married Joyce Glasscock on July 8, 1961 in Houston, Texas. Reverend Scott pastored at New Summerfield U.M.C., Mt. Hope U.M.C., Henry's Chapel U.M.C., several Kentucky U.M.C's, Pierce U.M.C., Mt. Zion U.M.C., Wesley U.M.C., Union Arbor Freewill Baptist Church, and First United Methodist Church of Carthage. He also taught Sunday school at Winkler House for many years. Don taught at Elysian Fields I.S.D. for 25 years, retiring in 1994. He was a member of the Rotary Club. Don enjoyed golf and fellowship with friends and family. He loved his children, grandchildren, and was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law, Arthur Williams; and sister-in-law, Lou Ann Scott.
Reverend Scott is survived by his wife of 45 years, Joyce Scott of Carthage; two sons, Jonathan Mark Scott and wife Debbie of Lindale and Stephen Joel Scott and wife Dawn of Yantis; three brothers, Orville Lindsey Scott and wife Emma Jean of Canton, Lane Austin Scott and wife Ann of La Verne, California, and Mervin Scott and wife Linda of Deadwood; two sisters, Wanda Fae Scott Gray and husband Charles of Longview and Shirley Ann Scott Williams of Longview; one brother-in-law, Roy Glasscock and wife Mary Ann of Silver Valley, Texas; two grandchildren and one on the way, Jamie Nicole Scott of College Station and Lacey Michelle Scott of Yantis; and numerous other favorite nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends also survive.
Serving as pallbearers are James Scott, John Scott, Scott Williams, James Youngblood, Wade Youngblood, Roy Wayne Craig, Charles Cammack, and Jay Youngblood. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Daryl Steadman and Roger Hohlt.
