Obituary

Funeral services for the Reverend Henry James Rhodes, Jr., age 89, of Carthage, TX, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 27, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church in Carthage with the Reverends John Barfield, John Bingham, Keefe Cropper, and Leah Hanks officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2012, at Fairlawn Cemetery in Oklahoma City, OK with Bob Winslow officiting. Rev. Rhodes passed away on Tuesday evening, April 24, 2012, in Longview.

Henry James Rhodes, Jr. was born on July 13, 1922, in Oklahoma City to Henry James "Dusty" Rhodes, Sr. and Jeannette Kolp Rhodes. Jim graduated from Classen High School in Oklahoma City and attended Oklahoma University. He served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII and was honorably discharged. Jim graduated from S.M.U. and Perkins School of Theology. He married Mary Kathryn Trussell on October 18, 1947, at the First United Methodist Church in Texarkana, Arkansas. Jim served as a United Methodist Minister at Law's Chapel, Bellaire in Houston, Big Sandy, Edom, Lone Star, New Boston, Tennison Memorial in Mt. Pleasant, Crockett, Carthage, West University in Houston, and LaMarque. He retired in 1982 and moved back to Carthage where he was a member of the First United Methodist Church as well as the Loyal Sons Sunday School Class. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; a son and daughter-in-law, Henry James "Hank" and Patrice Rhodes; one granddaughter, Christy Rhodes; and a sister, Jean Louanne Rhodes.

Jim is survived by his wife Kathryn of Carthage; one daughter, Renee Rhodes of Urbana, Illinois; three grandchildren, Henry James "Jamie" Rhodes, IV and Milos and Evan Skalicky; and one cousin, Mary Jane Smith and husband Herbert of Wichita Falls.

Serving as pallbearers are Ben Gullette, Raymond Cowart, Gerald Gregg, David Black, Russell Smith, Henry James Rhodes, IV, Milos Skalicky, Evan Skalicky, Brad Peloquin, and David Stohs.

Serving as honorary pallbearers are the Loyal Sons Sunday School Class and Ken Carter.
