Ray McDaniel, 70, of Carthage, TX, passed away on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 25, 2022, in Dallas, TX. Raydon McDaniel was born on Feb. 15, 1952, in Newton, TX to the late William Robert and Rachel Virginia Hamlet McDaniel. He graduated from high school in Burkeville, TX with the class of 1970. Ray married Elizabeth Ann Lloyd on Nov. 17, 1972, in Dallas and she preceded him in death on July 26, 2022. He worked as a Communications Project Manager in the Oil and Gas industry until his retirement. Ray moved to Carthage in 1999, from Winnsboro, TX and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Carthage. He was also preceded in death by his brother, W.H. "Mac" McDaniel and his sister, Pat Brent.

He is survived by his daughter, Kim Housley and husband Jim; son, Alan McDaniel and wife Sondra; and grandchildren, Reed Housley and wife Emily, Kaelyn Housley, James Housley, Ruth Housley, Will McDaniel, and Lucas McDaniel. He is also survived by lifelong friend Ricky Dickerson.

Our Ray, Uncle Ray, Dad, and Papaw was one-of-a-kind. He was a hardworking, consistent man—a straight shooter both in life and in sport. Raydon McDaniel enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends, and even more so when his grandkids came along. He loved sports, especially baseball— he played himself, spent countless hours coaching his kids, and even more watching his grandkids play. Ray was a teacher, and his family has been the recipient of many of his lessons through the years. He expected of others what he expected of himself including his grandkids-yet he also believed that there wasn't much that his grandkids couldn't do. He was devoted to Ann, his wife of 50 years, so devoted that he followed her closely into eternity. Ray's family is grateful to have had the privilege to be loved and instructed and led by him, and thankful to look forward to a time we will certainly see him again.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2022, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jim Housley and Dr. Allen Tilley officiating. Interment will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Ricky Dickerson, Steve Reyes, Steve Reed, Joe Vest, Tracy Peace, and Tim Wood.
