Obituary

Rachel "Tutsie" Hambrick, 78, of Carthage, went home to Glory on Wednesday night, July 26, 2017, in Tyler. She was born on September 29, 1938, in Pasadena, TX to the late James Melvin and Mary Margaret Simmons Long. She attended school in LaPorte and earned her LVN in Nursing at Wadley Hospital in Texarkana and worked for many years as a surgical nurse. She married Newton Hambrick on July 5, 1954, in LaPorte. Mrs. Hambrick's career was in nursing but her passion in life was being a pastor's wife and mother. She and Bro. Hambrick served at numerous churches in the East and Northeast Texas area for over 60 years. She was an excellent painter, a hobby she thoroughly enjoyed. She moved to Carthage in 2010, from Jacksonville, TX and was a member of Central Baptist Church where she attended the Maranatha Sunday School class. Mrs. Hambrick was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Christopher Glenn Hambrick.

Survivors include her devoted husband of 63 years, Bro. Newton Hambrick of Carthage; sons, Dr. Glenn Hambrick and wife Kelly of Carthage and Bob Hambrick and wife Brenda of Huntsville; daughters, Sherry Smith and husband Mike of Henderson and Patience Maples and husband Drake of Guntersville, AL; brother, Jimmy Long and wife Betty and sister, Maxine Evans of Florence, MS; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer Grisham and husband Jeffrey, Adam Hambrick and wife Amanda, Bobby Hambrick and wife Julie, Jamie Hambrick, Amy Clouds and husband Mike, Dr. Jeff Smith and wife Tamanda, Nikki Woolfolk and husband Chess, Julianna Kelly and husband Kristopher, Jacob Maples and wife Carolyn, and Robbie Maples; and 11 great-grandchildren and one on the way, Kennedy, Easton, Stormy, Noah, Skylar, Nate, Eli, Clayton, Shade, Beau, and Bereckah.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2017, at Central Baptist Church in Carthage with Dr. Dick Maples officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 4 p.m. on Saturday at Glenwood Cemetery in Groveton. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Bobby Hambrick, Jamie Hambrick, Robbie Maples, Adam Hambrick, Dr. Jeff Smith, and Jeffrey Grisham. Honorary pallbearers are Jacob Maples, Mike Clouds, Chess Woolfolk, Kristopher Kelly, and Christopher Glenn Hambrick.
