Emmy Award winning actor, Powers Boothe, died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, May 14, 2017, at his home near Los Angeles. He was 68. Powers was born in Snyder, Texas to Merrill Vestal and Kathryn Boothe. Vestal was a cotton farmer in Snyder and later raised poultry in East Texas. As the son of a share cropper, Powers was proud of his heritage. He proved to himself and others that with hard work and dedication you can do anything. In 1969, he married his Snyder High School sweetheart, Pamela Cole.  They both graduated from Texas State University. Powers then earned a Masters Degree in Fine Arts from Southern Methodist University where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity.

Powers attributed his intensive stage background, 10 years with Shakespeare companies from Oregon to New York, for shaping him into the actor he became. His first break was being cast in James McClure's Lone Star on Broadway. That experience was especially helpful when he played Cy Tolliver in HBO's Deadwood. He had many memorable television roles including Guyana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones, Philip Marlowe Private Eye, Nashville, 24 and Hatfields & McCoys. His numerous film credits include Southern Comfort, The Emerald Forest, Extreme Prejudice, Tombstone, Sudden Death, Blue Sky, U Turn, Nixon, Red Dawn, Frailty, Men of Honor, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, and The Avengers. He was passionate about his friends and family, but what he treasured most was time with his children and his grandson. Powers loved acting with daughter, Parisse, who played Tess on Deadwood for three seasons and Fiona in Straight A's. Parisse and son Preston were both cast with their father in The Final Season. Powers was an avid baseball fan. He coached Preston's baseball team and they shared a love for the Los Angeles Dodgers. But the apple of his eye was his grandson, Ryder James. They went fishing together in Texas just 3 weeks ago. In addition to being an Emmy recipient, his numerous honors included induction into the Texas Hall of Fame, a star on the Walk of Western Stars, the Distinguished Alumni Award from Texas State University, the Boys and Girls Clubs of America's Alumni Hall of Fame, Outstanding Alumni -Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, and was an honorary Texas Ranger. He loved playing poker with his buddies and placed 2nd in the SAG Foundation Poker Classic. Powers also enjoyed shooting trap. In 2016, he became a Knight in the International Order of St. Hubertus, a hunting and fishing organization that supports wildlife conservation causes.

He leaves behind daughter, Parisse, son-in-law, Dallas and grandson, Ryder James of Carthage, Texas, son, Preston and his beloved wife of 48 years, Pamela, of Hidden Hills, California. He is also survived by his brother,Tommy Boothe and wife Dixie of Carthage, Texas, brother, Riley Boothe and wife Linda of Carthage, Texas, and mother-in-law Barbara Yorgesen of Snyder, Texas.  Also the Steve and Jada Beavers family of Longview, Texas, the Todd Boothe family of Longview, Texas, Shawn Boothe of Shreveport, Louisiana, and Jared Boothe of Arlington, Texas.

As Producer/Director Robert Rodriquez so appropriately said, "he was a towering Texas gentleman and world class actor".
