Funeral services for Mr. Ples Van Deaton, age 81 of Carthage, Texas will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 2, 2007 at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Bruce Will and Brother Kevin Cook officiating. Interment will follow in Tatum Cemetery under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, July 1, 2007 at the funeral home. Mr. Deaton passed away on Friday night, June 29, 2007 in Longview, Texas.
Ples Van Deaton was born in Panola County, Texas on January 22, 1926. He was the son of John Wess and Purine Stone Deaton. Mr. Deaton had lived most of his life in Panola County. He married Carolyn Abernathy on December 24, 1971 in Marshall, Texas. Mr. Deaton served his country during World War II in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. He was a member of the American Legion Post #353 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5620. Mr. Deaton worked as a truck driver for Groendyke and Bell Transport. He later worked for Grand Bluff Construction Company. Mr. Deaton was a member of the Southside Baptist Church of Carthage. He was preceded in death by his parents, eight siblings, and a grandson, Van Alan Campbell on September 25, 2004.
Mr. Deaton is survived by his wife of 35 years, Carolyn Deaton of Carthage; one daughter, Sharon Deaton Campbell and husband Rex of Carthage; one sister, Jean Hillin of Longview; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, several great-great nieces, and nephews and a host of friends also survive.
Serving a pallbearers are Rex Campbell, Michael Lanicek, Tommy Oden, Shane Oden, Byron Henry and Jimmy Deaton. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Pinkey Briggs and Albert Hillin.
