Graveside services for Mrs. Peggy Smith Barnes, age 81 of Carthage, Texas, formerly of Dallas, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2009 at Restland Cemetery in Dallas with Rev. Steve Jackson officiating under the direction of Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home. Mrs. Barnes passed away on Wednesday afternoon, February 18, 2009, at her home in Carthage.

Peggy Ann Smith Barnes was born on May 26, 1927 in DeRidder, Louisiana to Robert Estes and Thelma Minyard Smith. Mrs. Barnes graduated from Jasper High School and went to study at Baylor University where she earned a Bachelor's Degree of Science with a minor in Spanish and a Master's Degree in Sociology. She married Robert Vinson Barnes in 1950. She was a member of the American Association of University Women. Mrs. Barnes moved to Carthage on April 1, 1993 from the Dallas area. She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Carthage where she was also a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Vinson Barnes who passed away on November 23, 1991; her sister, Janis Smith Davis; and her daughter, Sue Ellen Walton who passed away on March 5, 2008.

Mrs. Barnes is survived by her son-in-law, Paul Walton of Tomball and three grandchildren, Courtney, Caroline, and Bobby Walton.
